Unfortunately, I missed the class
where we brainstormed ideas for this topic, but I did some brainstorming of my
own. One of my passions has always been cars, so I brainstormed ideas for a
topic related to the car scene. The car community is generally a fun-loving
group, but some people give it a bad name. At car meets, people from all over
the country gather to admire each other’s car. While at a car meet, loud
revving can be heard everywhere, and this isn’t a problem, but revving turns
into burn outs, turns into cops arriving, turns into the meet getting shut
down. This is obviously a huge issue for everyone who has to make the journey
back to wherever they came from without fully experiencing the meet. Another
issue I’ve seen is animosity towards police. In general, cops and car people
don’t get along. People have crazy built engines pushing 800 horsepower and
they want to show that off, and I get that, but what I don’t get is why car
people sometimes provoke the police. I think if the police were informed of
meets they would be more lenient. I also think that if, at meets, people were
more considerate of the surrounding areas, calls to the police and general
bitterness towards the car community would go down.
So, my research question to address this
issue, as well as other issues surrounding the car community, is how can we
make car meets more civilized and have better connotation overall? The overall theme
for this topic would just be an informational essay to raise awareness for the
issue I’m solving. I love the car community and hate seeing it being shown in
such a negative light.
Some stakeholders I could include in my
essay would be anyone in the car community, police, and people living in areas
negatively affected by the car scene. The car community would be a stakeholder
obviously because uncivilized people at meets can really ruin the experience
for others. Also having to leave early, especially if you drove from a
different state to attend, would leave a bad taste in your mouth. Police are
stakeholders because they could gain some peace of mind that car meets are more
grown-up. People living in places affected by the community would also gain
peace of mind and their views of the community would improved. I’ll mostly be
addressing the community, however, because they are like-minded people and I
think I could more easily persuade them.
I would prefer to persuade someone who
already agrees with me to an extent because I can connect with them through
logos, ethos, and pathos. I feel like I excel in situations where I can relate
with someone through similar passions. My main and really only concern is how
long I can really make my essay. I know I can talk a lot about the community
and how to improve it, but I’m not sure if I could get seven pages out of it.
However, I will try my best to write a well-rounded and only slightly biased
essay.
This is an example of a huge annual car meet called Wekest
