P3 Blog

Deciding on what to write about for P3 is rather difficult because you want to choose a topic of interest but also be able to find plenty of information on what you’re trying to argue. I am more interested in the science field so after searching around for current topics I would like write about the controversial aspects of electric vehicles. The research question I am aiming at is why isn’t the general population accepting the new technology and what are some possible improvements of the technology to meet the needs of the population. The way I developed this question was by searching current articles about electric vehicles and reading about speculations from the launch of these vehicles. This mainly included the disadvantaged of the vehicles such as range anxiety, battery life, and cost. However, the great benefits were always covered including maintenance, power, zero emissions, and free charging when away from home. The overall topic of this issue is about the adoption of new technology in the current population and why it arises. There are many factors that come into play when a new product is introduced into a new market for that specific product. In this case, EV’s are not necessarily a new product, but they bring aspects that don’t allow it hit the so called “tipping point” some products do. There is a whole book dedicated to this concept I read a few years ago that I might have to source due to how far the author goes in depth about the topic. There are some aspects of that situation which are usually covered in a general economics course which I would have to research and include.
There can be multiple stakeholders for this topic including research and development companies, vehicles manufacturers, technology investors, and the population how own or deciding to own an electric vehicle. I currently haven’t decided on a stakeholder given my issue can encompass all above stakeholders but will most likely be the general population based on that my issue is about why the population won’t accept the technology. My objective would be to persuade the ones who are deciding to purchase an electric vehicle or convince ones who think EV’s aren’t worth investing in. I would have to discuss how owning an eclectic vehicle would be beneficial from owning a conventional vehicle. This would include everyday use, cost differences, the long term investment, and maybe environmental factors. The second part I would discuss anticipated improvements in the near future electric vehicles owner would expect. This would include battery advancements in weight, power, size, capacity, and production as well as an increase in charging stations available to users.

Some concerns that I have for P3, in my case, would be organization. How should I set up the paper so it flows well and how one section can segue into another? It also might be challenging to narrow my issue down enough do hit my target audience, however these can be later addressed when organizing the paper approaches.
This is a link to a TEDx Talks about where the electric car is in the current industry and where it might go in the near future.
