P3 Blog Post

Before deciding on childhood growth and development and how it affects later life, I had an extremely hard time narrowing down a topic for P3. In a world with so many topics and so much information, it seemed impossible to pick just one topic however I am confident in my choice. I am an Early Childhood Education major and am extremely passionate when it comes to kids and their education. So many important aspects of life are learned within the first few years of a child’s life, therefore, it is essential that children grow up in a safe and supportive environment. I am going outside the topic of Ethics in Higher Education and transitioning down into the effects of primary education; straying away from the course theme is essential to my topic. I still have not narrowed my topic down to one specific argument, however the ideas that I have for my argument are all connected and related. The overall theme for my topic is the effects of childhood development and education and my argumentative essay will involve the way childhood effects an individual later in life. Some potential stakeholders that I could direct my argument towards are the parents of young children, childhood development researchers, educators, and possibly even psychologists looking to help adults face the events from their childhood. I think the stakeholder that would be the most interested in my argument are the parents of the young children. It is important for parents to know how their children are developing and what steps they can take to give their child a positive experience. I would much rather persuade a resistant stakeholder because I feel it is necessary to show the individual just how important it is for children to have moral, emotional, and physical support throughout their growing stages. If a child does not have the amount of love and support that they need, lasting effects will be shown throughout their adult lives. One of my main concerns when addressing P3 and the stakeholders that may disagree with my cause is that I will try to relate on a more emotional level than a statistical level. Because I am so passionate about helping children become the best people they can be, it is difficult for me to separate my emotions from factual data; I need to understand that not everyone will connect to the issue on a personal level. A few ways to avoid this issue and accurately portray my argument would be to do lots of detailed research and be able to prove my point with facts and studies, not just my personal opinions. Some in-class activities that could help my writing process are workshops and getting the opinion of someone who may not be as personally connected to my argument as I am. An outsiders view and ideas would be greatly beneficial and would aid in the construction of my argument. At this point, I am fairly confident in discussing my topic and presenting my ideas, however, a little extra help and guidance would be useful.
