What do Bumper Stickers Mean to People?

Aside from the typical CSU and Ram related bumper stickers one may find commonplace in the parking lots of our campus, there a few other bumper stickers that are not as rampant on campus that can be found in the surrounding town of Fort Collins. Some examples of these may be "Hillary for Prison" stickers, "Bernie Sanders 2016" stickers that can now be considered ancient artifacts at this point in the year, and "Trump for President" stickers. Although most of these observed bumper stickers are political, they do tell a lot about the driver of the vehicle, and especially a lot about how dedicated they may be towards their opinion. Myself personally, I would never taint my car with any bumper sticker, unless it was significant to the car I drive, and that itself probably tells a lot about myself. Even people who refuse to put any foreign object on their car, are making a statement by doing so. They must feel that the piece of property that they own and will show to anyone who drives by or sees them, is sacred in a sense, and should remain pure of any messages that can be misconstrued in any way shape or form.

People who post bumper stickers on their vehicle must be aware that they are essentially turning their vehicle into a public Myspace page, and by doing so are also free advertisement for any brand or movement they are posting. For those who do not choose to do so, they must feel that their opinions are personal, and do not choose to push them on others by flashing them with colorful and sometimes distasteful and gaudy stickers at every stoplight. With this information, I am not surprised by the fact that most of the times that I have been cut off or road raged, it has been by the "peace promoting" VW Bugs, draped in flower stickers, peace symbols, and "Coexist" stickers. Quite the oxymoronic phenomena.
